A new pedestrian crossing will be built on a busy road in Downend thanks to a campaign by the local Conservative councillors.
Cllrs Liz Brennan, Ben Burton and James Griffiths, Conservative councillors for Frenchay and Downend on South Gloucestershire Council, have managed to secure a new zebra crossing on Four Acre Road, just south of the Quakers Road junction.
The crossing will make it much safer for parents and children to access nearby education centres such as Bromley Heath Infant School, Bromley Heath Junior School, Wrigglypeeps Preschool and Great Expectations Day Nursery.
Cllr Ben Burton said: “I am absolutely thrilled to see that our efforts to bring a much-needed zebra crossing to this part of Four Acre Road have paid off. With a number of schools in the immediate area, it will provide parents and children with a much safer route to access these facilities.”
Cllr Liz Brennan said: “Road safety is one of our top priorities in Frenchay and Downend and this is brilliant news for the whole community. I’d like to thank officers at South Gloucestershire Council for listening to our concerns and agreeing to take this scheme forward.”
The project is estimated to cost around £50,500 and will be delivered later this year.
Liz, Ben and James will keep local residents informed when a detailed work programme becomes available.

Numerous schemes have been implemented by Conservative-run South Gloucestershire Council over the past few years to improve pedestrian safety. In Winterbourne, Emersons Green, Bitton & Oldland Common and many other areas, projects have been delivered that have had a positive impact on local communities.
Around £85,000 will be spent in Downend alone this year to help maintain footpaths in the ward.
