Sam, Liz and Erica

The South Gloucestershire Conservatives have elected a new leader and deputy leader following last week’s local elections.

And if the Conservatives continue to lead the Council this year, the deputy leader of the Council has also been announced.

Parkwall & Warmley councillor Sam Bromiley has been named Leader of the Conservative Group, and Frenchay & Downend councillor Liz Brennan has been appointed Deputy Leader.

And if the Conservative Group forms the next administration, Erica Williams will be the Deputy Leader of the Council.

Sam, who has sat on South Gloucestershire Council for the past eight years, was the Cabinet member responsible for Children and Young People during the previous administration, and was a key figure in delivering the Conservative Group’s numerous successes in recent years.

A father-of-one, Sam grew up in a Hanham council house and has been a South Gloucestershire resident all his life. His background is in youth work and he lives in Warmley with his family.

Sam said: “I would like to thank my fellow councillors for putting their faith in me and selecting me as their Group leader. I will commit my best efforts to ensuring the Conservative Group continues to offer the very best to the people of South Gloucestershire.

“We can be extremely proud of everything we have achieved over the past four years, with the retention of free parking in all Council car parks, hitting record recycling rates, raising attainment in schools through record investment levels and so much more. Under my leadership, I will work hard to ensure these achievements continue.

“I would also like to pay tribute to our previous leader, Toby Savage, who did such a brilliant job of leading the Group and the Council during his tenure.”

Liz Brennan represents the Frenchay & Downend ward and is a highly respected member of the Conservative Group. A mum-of-three, she lives in South Gloucestershire with her family and is an active community champion.

Erica was the Cabinet member responsible for schools in the previous administration. She has served as a councillor for the past 12 years and represents Bitton & Oldland Common.

The Conservative Group is determined to ensure the Council provides value for money for taxpayers. Following the pledges made at last week’s elections, the focus will be on continuing to maintain the district’s roads and footpaths, boosting attainment levels in local schools, fixing the public transport system broken by the Labour WECA Mayor and supporting the district’s most vulnerable children and their families.
