The two Conservative councillors who represent Winterbourne on South Gloucestershire Council have successfully campaigned for a number of road resurfacing works to take place this year.

Thanks to appeals by councillors Trevor Jones and Nic Labuschagne, around £83,000 will be spent improving the roads in Winterbourne this year.

£30,000 will be spent resurfacing Star Barn Road from Watley's end Road to Park Avenue and £10,000 will be spent improving Lewton Lane from Park Avenue to Star Barn Road.

Gazzard Road will also be resurfaced along with Saint Michael’s Close and England’s Crescent.

And following a campaign by Trevor and Nic to improve pedestrian safety at Damsons Bridge, £10,000 has been set aside to continue to investigate further safety measures.

The councillors have also secured better pedestrian safety features at Beacon Lane and a zebra crossing at the Flaxpits Lane junction with Hicks Common Road.

Cllr Trevor Jones said: “I’m delighted to say that these vital road improvement works will take place in Winterbourne this year. Nic and I have been busy lobbying the council on behalf of residents and I’m pleased to see that our efforts have paid off.”

Cllr Nic Labuschagne said: “It’s important that the roads in Winterbourne are kept in good condition so residents are able to get around as easily as possible.

"These resurfacing schemes are welcome and I’m sure that residents will notice a positive difference when they are finished.”

Dates and times for when the resurfacing schemes will take place are currently being drawn up and the Conservative councillors will ensure local residents receive timely updates.

Conservative-run South Glos Council will spend more than £14m on vital road improvement schemes this year. It follows a commitment from the Conservatives to ensure the local road network is in top condition to make it easier for people to get around.
