Soon-to-be-finished Pucklechurch path is ‘a step in the right direction’

A new walking and cycling path in Pucklechurch that is soon to be completed is a step in the right direction, councillors say.

The new shared-use path that will link Pucklechurch to the existing cycle track on Shortwood Hill, in Boyd Valley, will be completed within the next six weeks.

The project started life under South Gloucestershire Council’s previous Conservative administration, and has been led by Boyd Valley councillor Ben Stokes and former councillor Steve Reade.

At the time of writing, the new kerb line is being constructed before the final layer of colour is added to the surface.

Cllr Ben Stokes, Conservative councillor for Boyd Valley on South Gloucestershire Council, said: “This new walking and cycling path is just around six weeks away from completion and I’m absolutely delighted with progress so far.

“This path is a step in the right direction in making our roads easier and safer for people to get around on foot, meaning people can finally travel off the busy road from Pucklechurch to Shortwood and on to Emersons Green.”

Steve Reade, former Conservative councillor for Boyd Valley on South Gloucestershire Council, said: “I am proud to have championed this scheme during my time on the council.

“Putting investment into our rural communities and creating employment opportunities in Emersons Green and Lyde Green are extremely important and this path, once finished, will mean that pedestrians, cyclists and horseback riders are able to get around the Boyd Valley area much more easily.”
